A city guide is no use to you if you can't read it. MUSEENYC is built to work on any device, with or without assistive technology.
Our commitment
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. Accessibility is part of how this site is built rather than something bolted on afterwards: the checks run automatically on every build, and a change that breaks one of them doesn't get published.
What that means in practice
- Readable contrast throughout, in both light and dark modes.
- Full keyboard navigation, with a “skip to content” link first on every page.
- Clear heading structure, labelled controls and alternative text, so screen readers can work through a page in order.
- A layout that reflows for zoom and larger text instead of scrolling sideways.
- Reduced motion when your system asks for it.
- Every place, review and listing readable without JavaScript — and everything on the map is also available as plain text and links.
- Tap targets sized to be used comfortably with a thumb.
