Our top tier, and our stamp of approval. We paid our own way in every time, and went back before saying so.

We pay, every time
Anonymous, always, on our own money. No press dinners, no comped tables, no list of who to call ahead.
Twice, at least
One great night is luck, and a kitchen can have one. The M is for the places that were just as good the second time, on a different night.
Worth the trip
Not "good for round here". Worth a train, a transfer and the walk at the other end — which is where most places we try fall away.
It comes off, too
Rechecked continuously, not on a fixed schedule. A chef leaves, a room stops caring, the M goes — a list that only ever grows is a list that has stopped meaning anything.

What is the MUSEENYC M List?
It's the shortlist inside the shortlist. We visit far more places than we ever post, so everything on MUSEENYC has already earned its way onto the site. An M is the tier above that: somewhere we'd send you across the city for, that held up the second time we went, and that we keep going back to ourselves.
Why is everything on this site scored so highly?
Because the filtering happens before anything gets published, not after. New York has tens of thousands of places to eat, drink and go; we see a great many of them and post a fraction. Somewhere that merely disappoints doesn't get a bad review here — it gets left out. Read the scores as a ranking among places already worth your time, not as a curve across the whole city.
Can a place lose its M?
Yes. The list is reviewed continuously, not on a fixed schedule. If a place slips — a kitchen change, a room that stopped caring — the M comes off. A list that only grows is a list that stops meaning anything.
