Sixty-seven acres on the ridge above the Hudson, laid out by Olmsted Jr. on land John D. Rockefeller Jr. bought and gave to the city. It’s rightfully far, and that’s part of it. The hills here are unique in Manhattan — terraces cut into rock, paths that switchback down the slope, and the Heather Garden running along the top.
What to know
Free, and the views west across the Hudson to the Palisades are the reason to come. The Met Cloisters sits inside the park at the northern end and charges separately. Take the A to 190th Street and you come out at the park’s edge rather than the bottom of the hill.
