Accessibility

Our commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, the current version of the standard. Accessibility is part of how this site is built rather than something bolted on afterwards: the checks are automatic, and a change that breaks one of them does not get published.

What that means in practice

• Readable contrast throughout, in both light and dark modes.
• Full keyboard navigation, with a “skip to content” link first on every page.
• Clear heading structure, labeled controls and alternative text, so screen readers can work through a page in order.
• A layout that reflows for zoom and larger text instead of scrolling sideways.
• Reduced motion when your system asks for it.
• Every place, review and listing readable without JavaScript — and everything on the map is also available as plain text and links.
• Tap targets sized to be used comfortably with a thumb.

Walking tours, maps and printable guides

• Every walking tour page carries the full tour as text: the route, every stop, walking directions, transit options and notes. That page is the accessible version of the tour.
• The printable PDF guides are a convenience copy of the same content, set in high-contrast type. If a PDF doesn't work with your screen reader, use the tour page, or ask and we'll send the content in another format.
• Tour maps and walking directions open in Google Maps, a third-party service with its own accessibility features, which we don't control. Everything on a tour map is also listed on the tour page.
