NYC trip planning

A New York trip built around you, with your own custom Google Map, by someone who lives here and walks it for a living.

Why have someone plan it

Planning New York yourself means forty open tabs, lists written by people who were paid to write them, and a nagging sense that you are building the trip everybody else takes. You arrive with a schedule that zigzags across the city, spend the mornings on the subway instead of in the neighborhoods, and find out on the day that the place you were most excited about is booked, closed or not what the photos promised.

A plan from someone who lives here starts somewhere else entirely. It puts the right neighborhoods on the right days so you walk instead of commute. It knows which famous things are worth the line and which are not, when to go so they are not crowded, and which reservations you have to make the morning they open or not at all.

Why MUSEENYC: every recommendation comes from places we have been to and paid for ourselves, the same places on this site, and nobody can pay to be on it. So the plan is built on our opinions rather than on whoever bought an ad. You get it on your own Google Map, color-coded by day, and a round of changes once your flights are booked.

What you get

  • We start with a few questions: who is coming, how long you have, how far you like to walk, how you want to eat, and what you would rather skip.
  • You get a day-by-day plan with the timing worked out: which neighborhoods on which day, where to eat near them, when to go to the busy things so they are not busy.
  • You get a custom Google Map of your trip: every stop pinned, color-coded by day, with our notes on each one. It opens in the Google Maps app you already have, works on your phone all week, and you can follow it or ignore it.
  • Every recommendation comes from the places on this site, which nobody pays to appear on.
  • One round of changes after you read it, because plans change once flights are booked.

How to book it

Use the form below, or email us. We reply with availability, the price and what is included, in writing, and nothing is confirmed until you say yes. If the weather would ruin it we will tell you and move it.

The full terms, including cancellations, are in our terms. Booking this changes nothing about what we write on the rest of the site: nobody can pay to appear on MUSEENYC.

Common questions

How much does NYC trip planning cost?

It depends on how long you are here and how much you want planned, so we quote it in writing once we know the dates and the length of the trip. Nothing is owed until you have that quote and say yes to it.

What exactly do I get?

A day-by-day plan with the timing worked out, and your own custom Google Map with every stop pinned and color-coded by day. The map opens in the Google Maps app you already have, so it works on your phone all week without downloading anything.

How far in advance should I book trip planning?

Two to three weeks before you fly is comfortable. We can work faster than that, and we often do, but the further ahead you are the more of the hard-to-get tables and timed tickets are still open to you.

Do you book the restaurants and tickets for me?

We tell you exactly what to book, where, and the day the reservations open, and we build the plan around what you manage to get. The bookings stay in your name, on your card, so nothing depends on us if plans change.

Can you plan around kids, a budget, or how far we can walk?

That is most of the job. Tell us who is coming, how far you want to walk in a day, what you would rather skip and what you want to spend, and the plan is built around those limits rather than around a list of sights.

How is this different from the free itineraries on your site?

The free ones are good routes for a general visitor, and they stay free. This one is built around your dates, your pace and your taste, and it comes with the map and a round of changes after you read it.
