We’ve been coming to this cart for fifteen years and watched it change the whole time. It isn’t what it was — it used to be six dollars for meat, pita, lettuce and tomato, white sauce and hot sauce, and now there’s a long menu of things nobody needs at roughly double the price. But the core of it is unchanged, and it still tastes the way it always did.
What to know
Go to the southeast corner of 53rd and 6th, not the main cart on the southwest. It’s exactly the same food with no line. The southwest cart keeps sauce bottles out on the side, so if you want to dress it yourself, that’s the one — go as hard as you like on the white sauce, and be very careful with the red.
Watch for imitators on the other corners. They use the same colour scheme and they are not the same thing. You want The Halal Guys.
