Cellar Dog

Jazz downstairs, ping pong and shuffleboard in the same room, and the only cover charge in the city we would call cheap.

Going? Tell them MUSEENYC sent you. It's not a discount and there's nothing to redeem — we just want them to know where you heard it.

It feels like freedom. You walk in and do whatever you please: plenty of room to move around, never claustrophobic, and an almost unreasonable number of things to actually do. Pool, ping pong, shuffleboard, chess, backgammon — with a band playing in the corner the whole time.

What to know

This is one of the only bars in New York where we’d say the cover charge is cheap and worth it. Water is self-serve, and the bar keeps a good number of beers on tap. Bring a date and play something, or bring a group, or just sit and listen to the jazz. All three work.

Getting in
Cover is modest by New York jazz standards. Cash is the safe assumption. Music runs very late.
