Go when
Late afternoon, on the way to the Promenade

Orange, Pineapple and Cranberry run parallel between Henry and Columbia Heights, and walking all three takes about ten minutes. Federal and Greek Revival houses, wooden doorways, almost no traffic — this is the part of Brooklyn Heights people mean when they call it the best-preserved neighborhood in New York.

What to know

They come out at the Promenade, so fold them into that walk rather than making a separate trip. The naming is genuinely unexplained; the fruit story is folklore. These are residential blocks, so keep it quiet.
