Commerce Street
A crooked two-block street that explains why people romanticize the West Village.

Two blocks that bend where no grid would let them, because this part of the city was laid out before the grid arrived. The Cherry Lane Theatre sits on it, and the pair of houses at the bend are among the most photographed in the neighborhood.
What to know
It’s a real residential street, so keep the volume down. Best combined with a wander through Bedford, Grove and Barrow, which do the same thing for several blocks in every direction.
