Two private-feeling gardens above 42nd Street that anyone can walk into.

A pair of small gardens flanking Tudor City Place, raised above 42nd Street on their own terrace. They belong to the 1920s apartment complex around them but have been open to the public for decades, and the buildings framing them are as good as the gardens.
What to know
Free, and as quiet as Midtown gets. The bridge over 42nd Street gives a clean view straight west down the middle of the street — the one the sun lines up with twice a year. The UN is two minutes downhill.
