How this is made
Everything here was written, photographed and built by us. This page says what isn't ours, and under what terms we're using it.
What we don't use
The short version of the whole project:
- No advertising. No banners, no sponsored posts, no affiliate links.
- No paid placement. No one can buy a review, a score or an M.
- No trackers. No analytics, no cookies, no pixels, no accounts.
- No stock photography. Every photograph on this site was taken by us, in this city.
- No press dinners. We pay for what we eat and drink.
It's free to read and it stays that way. That isn't generosity — it's the only arrangement under which the recommendations mean anything.
Words and pictures
All writing, photography, scores and the M List are © 2026 MUSEENYC. The MUSEENYC name and the M mark are ours. You're welcome to link to anything here or quote a line or two with credit; please don't republish whole pieces or scrape the site — the terms spell out where the line is.
Type
Headlines are set in Archivo Black by Omnibus-Type, licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. It's served from our own domain rather than a font CDN, so reading a page doesn't hand your IP address to a third party. Body text uses whatever grotesque your device already has; essays are set in Georgia.
The map

Built with
Astro (MIT), which renders every page to static HTML ahead of time. There is no database and no server doing work while you read — which is why it's quick on a phone with two bars.
