124 Old Rabbit Club
A true speakeasy, hidden in plain sight on MacDougal Street: no sign, unmarked stairs, and a dark room full of people who found it.

If you live around here you have walked past it a hundred times. You might hear music and have no idea where it is coming from. There is no obvious sign. You go carefully down a set of unmarked stairs, half sure you are about to walk into somebody’s basement, and instead you step into a dark room, decorated with intention, full of people quietly having a drink and a conversation.
New York is full of bars sold as speakeasies, and being famous for it is exactly what stops them being one. This is the real thing: a bar that is genuinely hidden in plain sight.
What to know
At 124 MacDougal, at Minetta Lane. Look for the steps down to a black door; if it is closed, ring the buzzer. It is small, so go early or expect to wait.
Going? Tell them MUSEENYC sent you. It's not a discount and there's nothing to redeem — we just want them to know where you heard it.
