One of very few authentic classical Chinese gardens in the United States, at Snug Harbor Cultural Center. Built by artisans from Suzhou with materials shipped from China — courtyards, a koi pond, a bamboo forest path and a waterfall, arranged the way a scholar’s garden is supposed to be arranged.
What to know
There is an admission charge for the garden itself, and it closes seasonally, so check before crossing. The Staten Island Ferry is free and the ride is half the point; the S40 bus runs from the terminal.
