A beautiful, well-kept park with something for everyone and endless places to relax.
Olmsted laid it out over the railway, which is why it works in terraces and why there is a tunnel underneath with a strange history. It runs from 72nd Street to 158th, with a marina, a boat basin people actually live in, and the best westward sunset on the island.
Central Park gets the visitors. This is the one the neighborhood walks in.
What to know
Free. The 79th Street Boat Basin and the promenade south of it are the stretch to start with.
