The bar that started the whole modern speakeasy thing, in 2007. The entrance is a 1940s wooden phone booth inside Crif Dogs on St Marks: you get in, pick up the receiver, and the back wall opens.

Everything after that is a small dark room with taxidermy on the walls and very good drinks. You can order a hot dog from the shop you walked through, which is either a joke or the best bar snack in the city. It is the second one.

What to know

Call for a same-day reservation or try walking in early. The booth is not a prop, and it is the only way in.

Going? Tell them MUSEENYC sent you. It's not a discount and there's nothing to redeem — we just want them to know where you heard it.
