Jazz

Bill Saxton plays tenor in the front room of a brownstone on 133rd Street, which in the 1920s was Swing Street and had a speakeasy in almost every basement. One of them is where Billie Holiday was first heard.

About forty chairs, no bar, no stage. You bring your own bottle and you sit close enough to hear the keys move. There is nothing else like it in New York.

What to know

Cash, BYOB, book ahead. Two sets, Friday and Saturday.

Going? Tell them MUSEENYC sent you. It's not a discount and there's nothing to redeem — we just want them to know where you heard it.

Getting in
Cash at the door, BYOB, two sets a night. Reserve, because the room holds about forty.
