Walk it in either direction and Lower Manhattan reorganises itself around you — cast-iron warehouses, cobbles, the newer towers at the southern end, and cross streets that keep opening onto the river.
What to know
Free, and it works as a spine: almost everything worth seeing in Tribeca is within a block of it. Go on a weekend morning when the trucks are gone. Heading south takes you toward the World Trade Center; north puts you into the West Village.
