Opened in 1925 and run by the same family since, with the original fountain equipment still in use. They make the sodas from syrup and seltzer rather than pouring them out of a gun, which you can taste.
It is a working lunch counter on the Upper East Side rather than a recreation of one, and the difference is obvious the moment you sit down.
What to know
Counter seats are the good ones. It gets a line at weekends.
